WE - DIFFRENTLY - Folk Music and Dance Ensemble OSŁAWIANY
Why 'We differently'?...
It is because Osławiany ensemble, apart from traditional vocal and dance
repertoire, is also a coordinator and an executor a number of other undertakings
which have become an inherent part of the local landscape. Focused on developing
our artistic interests and abilities, what goes with promoting our extraordinary
region with its old and rich history, we try to act more 'intensively'.
And it means in more detail that...
SINGING CHRISTMAS CAROLS...
"Z koladoju idem wid chaty do chaty...!" (A verse from a traditional local Christmas carol)
Christmas is a magic and exceptional time.
We always try to fully participate in it. Since we are a folk group, we are truly
familiar with our ancestors' Christmas customs. We know, respect and preserve
the traditions, showing them to the younger generation during our performances.
Cultivating passing from generation to generation Christmas carolling custom,
we march from house to house, sing local Christmas carols, spread the gospel
and exchange best Christmas wishes.
And a solemn atmosphere, joy and yearning for sharing that incredible moments
with others accompany that carolling custom - thus we try to spend that time
together just visiting each other, singing and laughing a lot.
A Christmas carols concert and a nativity play (Wertep) presented by us in a
local firehouse in Mokre crown that magic time. Everyone who wants to sing carols
together with us once again is invited and very welcome...
"MAŁANKA"
Each year our group in a cooperation with a local office of the
Organization of Ukrainians in Poland organize in Mokre a New Year party called
Małanka.
Małanka is in the Ukrainian tradition a cheerful and warm welcome to New
Year. According to the Julian calendar, the first day of New Year is celebrated
on 14 January. Thus, on the eve of that day we have a great party filled up with
listening to wonderful music, dancing, singing carols and wishing all the best
for the New Year.
"THE CULTURE FESTIVAL BY OSŁAWA"
The culture festival By Osława organised by the Organization of Ukrainians in Poland,
office in Mokre, and our folk group Osławiany has been held in Mokre for more than
thirty years. It takes place every year and lasts for two days.
The aim of the festival is to pass the old traditions from generation to generation.
We want to show people, especially young Ukrainian minority in Poland, how
important it is to preserve old customs and dialect. .
The place, the village Mokre, which has been chosen for the festival is meaningful
for many reasons. The majority of the people living in Mokre is of Ukrainian
descent. Thus, our actions are addressed, above all, to the people who are
directly related with the aims of our festival which the protection against
oblivion and cultivation of local old traditions are.
However, the particular characteristics of the region, its cultural diversity,
a variety of religions, abundance of historical monuments and three cultures
and nations' - Polish, Ukrainian, Slovakian - many years co-existing make the
festival By Osława also interesting to a wider circle of the local community.
We address the festival to all the people who are of different nations, who
respect one another, search for mutual understanding among diverse cultures
and who believe that better knowledge of the traditions of the nearest neighbours
helps in dialogue and tolerance.
TOWARDS THE THEATRE...

epic poem On a high mountain pasture (Na wysokiej połoninie) written by
Stanislaw Vincenz.
Before the performance there were organised theatre workshops conducted by

and Salasz (The Society of Cultural
Renovation and Coexistence) in Cieszyn.
